Voice Writing - Court Reporting in
the New Millennium
WHAT IS A VOICEWRITER?
A voicewriter is a court reporter who takes legal proceedings by voice rather
than through the use of a stenotype machine. The reporter speaks into a speech
recognition silencer which fits snuggly against the face and, when used
properly, the reporter's voice is muted so effectively that he or she is
completely silent, even to someone positioned only inches away. This ergonomic
method of reporting facilitates instant translation of voice to text, which can
then be fed (in realtime) to a judge's and/or lawyer's laptop running a
litigation support browser.
DETAIL OF SERVICES
The voicewriter offers services such as realtime feed, rough draft disk,
expedited copy, and uniquely Client CD. A product created by a SpeechCAT
application of the same name; Client CD provides the attorney and/or judge with
an on-screen transcript of the proceedings, through which the highlighted text
can be heard from the original audio of the live session. A final transcript is
produced through the use of SpeechCAT computer-aided transcription software.
INTEGRATION
All AudioScribe SpeechCAT audio and text files can be accessed and viewed
via Windows Explorer and a simple double click. They offer this statement as a
matter of fact with regard to their files because, as a developer of speech
recognition software for court reporters, by court reporters, they write audio
files compliant to industry standards, meaning the files can be played from
virtually any desktop without the requirement of specific software. Not even
Client CD requires additional software for viewing.
